Struggles of a Blogger

One day you wake up and say “Oh I think I should start a blog”, and then months later you realize it is 1000 times harder than it looks! That’s what I did. Here are A FEW of the struggles bloggers or wanna-be bloggers face.

  1. Building up a crew of loyal readers in damn near impossible! I know, I know consistency is KEY…but still it ain’t easy. Is it just me or does it seem like other bloggers are really the only people who religiously read blogs??? It’s probably just me… because my blog isn’t “known” enough for random non-bloggers to want to read!
  2. Youtube seems to be more popular in this day and age. People will watch YouTube videos for hours on end, but a lot of people will pay no mind to reading a blog.
  3. Coming up with unique content is HARD. The blogging community is so jam packed with talented  people that coming up with content and ideas that nobody has used before is difficult.
  4. Writers block mixed with a blogging schedule doesn’t mix. This is a HUGE reason I haven’t made a blogging schedule, I suffer from writers block on a regular basis and I don’t want to have to force myself to create content on a certain day.
  5. Finding a domain name you LOVE is HARD. So many bloggers and all the domains have to be unique.
  6. Having a brain fart and not knowing what tags to tag to your post. For example this post I had no clue what to put in the tags!!!
  7. Wondering if your blog is even worth the time and effort you put into it. Don’t get me wrong, I love my blog but every now and then the lack of readers makes me think that if i’m the only person that reads my posts I might as well just write in a notebook! (This was more of a struggle when I first started this blog)
  8. Asking a question in your blog post and having nobody answer it. If I read another bloggers post I feel obligated to answer their question, especially if nobody has yet..because it kinda sucks when nobody does!
  9. Wanting to collab with people, but they are higher up on the blogging food chain and wont give you a chance. Most bloggers are super sweet but will pay little to no mind to smaller blogs.
  10. Finding your niche. I have yet to find my niche, but it’s not something I’m too worried about because I blog about whatever comes into my mind.
  11. Not wanting people in your personal life to stumble across your blog, or find out somehow. I haven’t told a soul about my blog, although it is linked on my twitter and Instagram (so a few people may have noticed and just not mentioned it…) I’m just not ready  to have people I see on the regular reading and talking to me about my little blog. My boyfriend of 3 years doesn’t even know yet…(but he will definitely be the first to know..but i’m not quite ready)
  12. attempting to take the perfect pictures for your posts. I love photography, but trying to take blog specific pictures can be a struggle!
  13. Finding the perfect blog theme..especially a free one is a pain in the butt!!! I’m not ready to buy a domain, or pay for a theme yet, so I only use the free ones.

Fall classes have started, so if I go MIA for a few days it’s probably because college is killin’ me. I hope everyone had a good Monday, sorry that this post is a little bland and is lacking pictures!

  2. Yeah I think the majority of people who read blogs are bloggers. Don’t know why that is. That being said, tags are really important! That’s how bloggers can find your posts in their Reader. Some common tags I use that are popular and can be used for almost any kind of post are: thoughts, people, personal, about me, humor, identity, inspiration, blogging, life, etc. It’s hard building up a following but just keep reaching out to new bloggers and writing about stuff that you like and slowly it’ll grow! Keep at it, Morgan!

    1. I guess because a lot of people who like to read blogs end up creating their own blogs! Thank you for the tag suggestions, sometimes I’m at a complete loss for what to tag! Just out of curiosity how long have you been blogging??
      I’ll keep it up, I’m rather attached to my little blog.

      1. When in doubt just go to other people’s blogs and see what their tagging their posts with lol.
        I’ve been blogging since June 2013. Had 20 followers after 3 months and then I wrote a post that WordPress editors saw and decided to feature me and I gained a bunch of followers from that.

  5. Ohmygosh! Preach, girl! I completely agree with ALL these points. I also sometimes feel no one’s actually reading my blog, especially when I ask questions and get no answer, haha. Might as well write in a notebook, yeah! And YouTube definitely is more popular.. people prefer quick and visuals instead of a nice read.

    I totally understand the whole not telling people thing. Most people in my life don’t know either except for a selected few. I’ve got separate Twitter and Instagram account just for my blog, which is how most people don’t know. My experience in telling people has been quite positive. Not that I’d like to make it completely public, but I’m sure telling your boyfriend will give you a lot of support!!

    I’ve actually avoided looking for collabs because I guess I’m just too scared, haha.. but want to do a collab? 😀

    1. I’m glad I’m not the only one!! Yeah, my boyfriend’s job is actually his youtube channel, and I know he would completely support my blog haha I’m just not ready to let the cat out of the bag yet and tell him 😅
      I was going to make seperated social media accounts for my blog, but I was too lazy to try to keep up with that many accounts! I avoided looking for collabs too, because I was worried that I wasn’t good enough or something!! I would LOVE to collab with you! Also I joined in on a collab last week that @LoveLee (who commented above) is doing, it’s all things related to fall and I think we are starting in September your welcome to join in on that if you want, she is still looking for people!! ❤❤ I would link the collab post in this comment but I’m using my phone and can’t figure out how, but if you want to do it join in it will be a ton of fun!

        Hahhaha tell me about it.. It definitely takes some multi-tasking, having separate accounts!!

  6. Great post girl- I can relate a lot to the points you made.

    People nowadays generally don’t like to read, we’ve become kinda lazy and would just rather watch something instead-I think that’s why YouTube is so very popular right now, that and everyone wants to be the next fitness or lifestyle blogger.

    One thing that I find frustrating, is putting out good, helpful content, and not seeing the results that you feel like you should be. You spend all that time thinking and writing something that certain people can benefit from, and you feel under-appreciated.

    Anyways, like the above blogger, Lani, stated, you’re doing really well for a fairly new blog. Don’t lose heart and keep at it girl.

    1. Thank you, I’m glad you can relate!! I think that’s why youtube is so popular too, and the fact that you get to see the actual person and how they are. Yass, It gets so frustrating, but I guess nothing worth having come easy. Thank you so much for the encouraging words and the love on my blog background!!! I worked SOO hard to find a blog background that I would actually like!😊 have a wonderful day!!

  7. I too haven’t told my family or my friends that I’m having a blog. I value my anonymity too much. Saying this, no one in my real life shares my passion for beauty products, and that was the reason I started blogging – to connect with others who share similar interests.

    And I think connecting with others is the key to more page views, more followers (who I prefer to call my blogging buddies), more comments and more fun and blogging satisfaction for you. I know some bloggers like to say it’s all about consistency and a schedule, but I don’t think that’s it at all (unless you abandon your blog for weeks or months).

    If you can commit to two to three posts a week, put that in your About section and remind people to swing by every other day (or so) they won’t miss a post. Bloggers that you’ve made friends with won’t care whether you post Mondays or Fridays, and whether you publish your posts in the morning or in the afternoon. They’ll swing by because they want to, or they see your post in the WP Reader (or they get an email) and then they check it out.

    About questions and comments. I think this is another thing where being connected is important. Whilst it’s nice if someone comments, most people will either not have an opinion, or they don’t have the time to comment on everything (because they follow hundreds of blogs themselves), or they might not care enough to take the time to give blogging love to someone who doesn’t give anything back in return. I’m not saying you’re doing anyhing wrong, but there are different reasons, and you’re the best person to figure out how to improve things for you and your blog.

    In any event, don’t despair, you’ve only been blogging for a few months. 🙂

    1. I agree, blogging is more about connection with others than a having a set posting schedule. I have noticed that when I take the time to read and comment on other blogs, those blogs are more likely to read and comment on mine, it’s just hard to keep up with EVERYONE elses blog and your own haha! Thank you for the advice and encouragement! 🙂

  8. This is SO relatable! I have a newish blog and the struggle is REAL. I lol’d when you mentioned your boyfriend and not wanting anyone to know because I also haven’t told my boyfriend and barely shared it with people i know. But I do have it linked on my twitter lol. Anyways, I’m gonna go check out the rest of your blog! And please excuse my poor grammar and sentence structure (I’m feeling lazy)

    1. Yay! I love that other people can relate to my struggle! Haha yeah, I know he’d give me a lot of support and what not..I just don’t like the idea of people I know reading it😂.

  9. All very painfully true haha I do agree it does seem to be the case of only bloggers reading blogs but to be fair, I didn’t read blogs before I started either unless I needed to know something specific on some tech piece I had 0 clue about ;/

  12. I totally agree with all your points Morgan! You hit the nail on the head with this one! Loved the read. The biggest one for me was not telling anyone about the blog :-). Jaja. Funny thing is after I mustered up the courage to do so – everyone seemed to like it and support me. The problem is how honest we can be as bloggers. We tend to not be so honest in person sometimes:-). Don’t fret. You write amazing material and you should invite everyone you know to the fun!!
